Introducing the Forget Me Not Remembrance Arch
A Stunning Organ Donation Memorial
The creative journey of the Forget Me Not Remembrance Arch began with an inquiry from Vikki Lloyd, Specialist Nurse for Organ Donation at Wigan Hospital. With only a suitable location in mind, the team envisioned an outdoor, free-standing sculpture that would capture the attention of hospital visitors and withstand the test of time and weather.
Designing the Perfect Tribute
Collaborating closely with the hospital's donor families, two unique sculpture designs were proposed. The final choice, a majestic arch adorned with vibrant forget-me-not flowers and butterflies, is an impactful reminder of the selflessness and importance of organ donation.
Crafting a Masterpiece
Meticulously crafted from three separate parts, each forget-me-not flower was fitted to the main structure using standoff fittings and screws, closely resembling the flower's dark centre. Along with the addition of butterflies modelled after Small Tortoiseshells, Purple Emperor, and Silver Washed Fritillary species, the sculpture's intricate design and detailing are truly mesmerising.
A Seamless Installation
Following careful packaging and transportation, the completed sculpture arrived at Wigan Hospital, where it was expertly winched into place. The archway now serves as a welcoming beacon of organ donation awareness and a space for quiet reflection.
A Beautiful Space for Reflection
Embellished with a plaque conveying the artwork's purpose, the Forget Me Not Archway invites visitors to contemplate the wonder of organ donation while sitting on its integrated bench. The dynamic shadows cast by the sculpture enhance the ambiance of the space, while the striking blue forget-me-nots perfectly complement the NHS colour scheme.
