Donarte 2023 marked the second global conference hosted in Messina, Sicily, from September 29th to October 1st. The event derived its name from the amalgamation of "donation" and "art". In the wake of the Covid pandemic, the tireless Medway Hospital staff found themselves as drained as the uninspiring environment that surrounded them. After enduring demanding hours in the ICU and HDU units, a wave of change was required in order to breathe new life into the atmosphere for both the dedicated staff and visiting families.
The creative journey of the Forget Me Not Remembrance Arch began with an inquiry from Vikki Lloyd, Specialist Nurse for Organ Donation at Wigan Hospital. And with a lot of determined effort on their part to overcome some difficult hurdles … the resulting artwork is here!
During last summer we were creating this project that includes a 2.5m tall revolving DNA sculpture and accompanying wall artworks to promote clinical research. The installation was originally planned for the end of October but unfortunately because of COVID-19 the artwork was sitting in storage until we were able to travel down to Medway.
